Resolving Water in Oil with Precision and Care for CAT Engine

Recently, we were faced with a challenging diagnosis: water in the oil of a customer's engine. What followed was a meticulous process of diagnostics, repair, and transformation, culminating in a solution that exceeded expectations.

Upon inspection, our team identified the root cause of the issue: eroded engine block liner seats, allowing water to seep into the oil and causing the rod bearings to fail. This resulted in the pistons making contact with the cylinder head, compounding the problem further. With a clear understanding of the issue at hand, we embarked on a comprehensive repair process to restore the engine to its optimal condition.

Our repair journey began with an out-of-frame engine build, a process that involved sourcing a high-quality used 6NZ Cat block. To ensure durability and reliability, the block was sent to a trusted machine shop, where the water to head ports were drilled and bronze bushings were installed. Additionally, stainless steel permanent liner protrusion rings were installed, eliminating the need for future block cutting and liner shimming.

The attention to detail didn't stop there. The block was decked to precision, ensuring a perfect fit for the remaining cylinder head. All new main bearings were installed, with careful checks on oil clearance and crank thrust to guarantee optimal performance. Cat cylinder and piston packs, along with new rod bearings, were fitted, accompanied by a comprehensive array of new gaskets, o-rings, and components to ensure longevity and reliability.

Furthermore, we took proactive measures to prevent future issues, installing new timing gear oil bearings and rocker shaft riders. Every detail, from the installation of new head bolts to the replacement of coolant hoses and thermostats, was executed to exceed our customer's expectations.

In collaboration with the customer, we ensured the integration of their provided turbo with a PDI manifold, further enhancing performance and reliability. With precision and care, we transformed a customer complaint into an opportunity to deliver exceptional value and craftsmanship.
